Dear Faculty and Colleagues,
Greetings from your friends in IITS. We hope that you’re doing well! With the fall semester now in full swing, we’re writing with some exciting news from Instructional Technology.

Visual Collaboration Tool in Moodle
IITS is working with faculty members from across the College to evaluate a powerful new visual collaboration tool. We’re working with colleagues in various departments including English, Writing, Astronomy, French, and Spanish to implement VoiceThread. This visual collaboration tool allows your students to upload images and video, and annotate them with audio and text. VoiceThread is fully integrated with Moodle, so it’s easy for students to create and share VoiceThread projects.

Keep an eye out for future editions of the IITS Instructional Technology newsletter where we’ll be featuring some student projects using VoiceThread.

And keep in mind, VoiceThread is a great tool for anyone interested in integrating technology into pedagogy. We still have some accounts left for this pilot. Let us know if you want to try it out this semester.

Faculty Innovations Videos: Academic Technology and the Liberal Arts
Keep an eye out for short videos to showcase how Haverford faculty members have been using technology effectively to enhance liberal arts education. IITS Instructional Technology will be releasing one video per week starting the week after the fall break. Stay tuned.

Universal Design of Instruction Workshops
IITS is partnering with ODS, OAR, Provost’s office, and the Library to plan workshops on Universal Design of Instruction early next semester. If you are interested in knowing about Universal Design of Instruction, take a look at this great checklist for inclusive teaching by Sheryl Burgstahler, Ph.D. DO-IT University of Washington.

App Recommendations for Mobile Devices
Writing and English department faculty members are using an iPad app called BaiBoard for collaborative image annotation this semester. This app allows you to annotate over the same image in real time on multiple devices. This app recommendation page on edtechteacher website will help you find an appropriate app to meet your lesson objectives. We have 10 iPads you can try in your class.

Integrating Digital Video Production Into Your Courses
This semester, our digital media specialist, Charles Woodard, is working with faculty members: Erin Schoneveld, Roy Ben-Shai, Jesse Shipley, Hee Sook Kim, and Vicky Funari to integrate digital video production into their curriculum. Contact us if you are interested in integrating digital media into your current or upcoming courses.

No Faculty Left Behind
This year we’re kicking off a plan to reach out to every faculty member individually. We want to partner with as many of you as possible – whether you’re looking to start a new project using technology as part of your teaching, find new ways to use the many resources we have to offer, or simply gather feedback on what you’d like to see next. We’ll be in touch soon – and of course if you’d like to explore what IITS Instructional Technology can do for you, please reach out.

Thank you.
