IITS is hosting a series of short workshops to promote effective use of technology on campus. Workshops are Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. in Stokes 004, unless otherwise noted. Workshops are open to students, faculty, and staff.

Working with Google Docs

Google Docs is a great tool. Stored in the cloud and easily shared, you can use Google Docs to collaborate with colleagues or work on a project from multiple computers. Google Docs is simple to use, but many of its best features might not be obvious. Come to this workshop to learn tips for formatting, collaboration, editing, and revising Google Docs. At the end of this workshop, you will be able to create outlines by using styles, restore earlier versions of a document, use comments to make suggestions without changing text, and more.

YouTube Workshop

Do you use YouTube videos in your courses? Come to this workshop and learn six tricks for using YouTube videos more effectively in your class.

  1. Create a video playlist accessible from Moodle.
  2. Create a link that will start a YouTube video at a certain time.
  3. Embed a YouTube video in your Moodle course page.
  4. Find YouTube videos that have closed captions.
  5. Add closed captions to your video using YouTube.
  6. Download YouTube videos.

Create Surveys with Qualtrics

Do you have reason to create surveys for research or administrative needs? Have you been using Survey Monkey, or a similar web-based survey tool? If so, come to this workshop and find out how haverford.qualtrics.com can help you create and deploy surveys, as well as analyze results. We will also look at some creative uses for surveys.

Do you get more email than you can handle? Learn tips to keep up with your messages through a mix of filters, labels, advanced searches, and subscription options. Identify SPAM and find out what to do when you get it.  Take a look at tools like SLACK, that move the conversation out of email altogether. Share your own tips for managing email. At the end of this workshop, you will still get more email than you want, but you will have some additional tools for keeping up with it.

 

Introduction to Photoshop

Adobe Photoshop remains one of the best tools around for creating and editing images. However, Photoshop’s many features can be overwhelming to new users. This workshop will introduce you to Photoshop basics and its tools for touching up, manipulating, and creating images.
