IITS is hosting a series of short workshops to promote effective use of technology on campus. Workshops are Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. in Stokes 004, unless otherwise noted. Workshops are open to students, faculty, and staff.

You don’t have to follow the news closely to learn about large security breaches. Such breaches happen every day. Our ProDesk frequently hears from community members that have fallen victim to computer malware, phishing attempts, and other types of exploits. Learn tips for protecting your data and identity from hackers and from other threats. While there is no way to eliminate all threats, you can practice techniques to make yourself and your computer less vulnerable.

Writing with Styles–MS Word Styles

Microsoft Word styles help you quickly and easily format your document in a variety of consistent and great looking ways. Using styles also lets you create an outline or table of contents and it makes your document more accessible to screen readers and other types of assistive devices. In this workshop, you will learn to apply, edit, and create styles in Microsoft Word. If you use Word, but are not familiar with the styles feature, this workshop is for you!


iOS Tips and Tricks–Get to know your iPad or iPhone better

The PDF format persists as a standard that works on just about any platform. Over the years, the PDF has become increasingly versatile and feature rich. In this workshop you will learn ways to make your PDFs more useful to your audience. Exact topics will depend upon interests of the participants. Options include: manipulating the PDF to add or remove pages, making a PDF text-to-speech readable, adding form fields in a PDF (so that your readers can type form responses via their computers), locking a PDF down for better security, optimizing PDFs, and keeping your version of Acrobat updated to secure your computer.

Rebecca Raber, Director of News and Social Media, will talk about what is new in social media and share tips, tricks and guidelines for using social media at Haverford. If you current tweet, facebook, blog, or otherwise present your work to the world, this workshop is for you. Likewise, this is a great workshop for anyone not yet using social media, but interested in learning more about it.
