The purpose of the cohort is to create a core group of students that will develop a strong knowledge in the realm of Media Production (Video, Photo, Audio) in order to better serve them in and out of class during their time at Haverford and beyond. The skills taught will help them in class projects that incorporate digital media, will make the cohort participants more marketable out in the job market, and will allow them to help instruct their fellow students on how to create digital media projects. Workshops will teach participants a variety of skills and software. Participants will also be assigned various month long projects after each meeting to hone the skills they are taught and to develop their own creative voice.
The Cohort will convene 6 times throughout the academic year, with an additional final screening / showing of their work near the end of the spring semester. Meetings will be 3 hours long. They will take place on September, October, November, January, February, and March. The final screening will take place in April. There will be an additional requirement of individual consultations in between the meetings. These are to check in with the students to make sure they are on track to finish their assignments.
The first semester’s meetings will focus on building a base of knowledge through the fundamentals of Photography, Videography, and editing. Workshops will focus on teaching Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Premiere.
The spring semester will focus on more advanced skills and programs, with an eye towards curating the workshops towards the various interests of the group, along with a guest lecturer and final project that will be screened.
