Troubleshooting Cable in Dorm Rooms
Any student is welcome to troubleshoot cable connection in the dorms. You may want to get a copy of the TV manufacturer’s manual if you are unsure how to perform any of the following troubleshooting steps. If the manual that shipped with the TV is missing, many manufacturers keep downloadable copies on their web sites.
Things to look for when troubleshooting include:
1. Make sure that the TV has good ac power. Check the electrical outlet.
2. Make sure that the remote has good batteries.
3. Check that the correct input on the TV has been selected (The VCR is set correctly to allow for TV viewing)
4. Make sure that the cable connections (coax) are secure (wall outlet, tv, vcr, dvd). Pay special attention to the “push on” cables that don’t actually screw onto the inputs on your devices.
5. Check that the TV is programmed to allow you to access channels 1-99.
6. If all of these have been checked, confirm that the tv still has a picture with the vcr/dvd.
How to Get in Touch with our Cable Provider
If your TV has passed all the tests above and you still can’t get any cable channels, it’s probably time for the Dorm Reps to call Comcast.
Comcast’s service number is 610-876-5000. The account number for the dorm locations is “09527 351000-01-9″. If you end up calling Comcast, please contact Core Technologies (610-896-1045 or prodesk@haverford.edu) to arrange for someone from our office to escort the Comcast repairman through building wiring closets. Please do not post the Comcast account information.
